Install the AI Chatbot in five clean steps.

Desktop Chrome · direct ZIP setup

This guide covers the exact path: enable Chrome developer mode, load the extension, connect your provider key, configure the bot, and test it inside a Free4Talk room.

Desktop Chrome only

Chrome extensions do not run on standard mobile Chrome, so install and configure this on a desktop or laptop browser.

Enable Chrome Developer Mode

This is a one-time browser setup step.

Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions.

Turn Developer mode on in the top-right corner.

Chrome will reveal the Load unpacked action.

Download and load the extension

Keep the extracted folder in a permanent location.

Download chatbot extension

Step 2B

Download the chatbot extension ZIP file.

Extract the ZIP into a permanent folder you will not delete later.

Open chrome://extensions and click Load unpacked.

Select the extracted folder, not the ZIP archive.

Get your API key

Use Gemini for the default path or Groq for speed-focused setups.

Google Gemini

Recommended

Go to Google AI Studio, sign in, and create a usable API key.

Good default for most users and usually the easiest first setup path.

Groq

Fast response

Go to Groq Console, sign in, and create a usable API key.

Useful when response speed matters more than anything else.

Configure the extension

Fill the required settings first, then add optional behavior controls.

API ProviderRequired

Choose Gemini or Groq depending on the model provider you want to use.

Paste the provider key exactly as issued by Gemini or Groq.

AI ModelRequired

Select the model that matches your provider and preferred response style.

Bot UsernameRequired

Enter your exact Free4Talk display name so the extension can identify your own messages correctly.

Persona Prompt

Use this to shape the bot voice, role, or conversational behavior.

Auto React

Lets the bot add reactions automatically when supported by the selected behavior.

Person Facts

Premium memory feature for storing longer-lived personal context.

Friends List

Premium feature for special handling of selected users.

Go live inside a real room

Once saved, test the bot with a few natural messages.

Open a Free4Talk room and check whether the bot reacts as expected. Start with simple natural messages before changing prompt behavior or memory settings.

Troubleshooting

These are the most common installation and setup problems.

Make sure Developer mode is enabled in Chrome. Click Load unpacked and choose the extracted folder, not the ZIP file. If Chrome shows a red error message on the extension card, open it and fix that issue first.

Verify that you selected the correct provider before pasting the key. Regenerate the key if needed, paste it again, and make sure no extra spaces were included. If you use Groq, also confirm that a Groq model is selected.

Check that the bot username matches your exact Free4Talk display name. Reload the Free4Talk tab after saving extension settings so the updated configuration is applied cleanly.

Enable the setting that ignores your own messages. That prevents reply loops and is usually the first thing to check when the bot seems too active.

Select Groq as the provider first. Once the provider changes, the model dropdown should update to show the Groq-compatible options.

Person Facts is a Premium feature. Make sure your license is active and that the saved usernames are entered exactly as they appear in Free4Talk.
