Desktop only

Chrome extensions cannot be installed on mobile phones or tablets. Use a desktop or laptop running Chrome on Windows, macOS, or Linux.

01

Enable Chrome Developer Mode

This is required once so Chrome can load unpacked extensions from a local folder.

What to do

Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions.

Find the Developer mode toggle in the top-right area.

Turn it on. Chrome will reveal extra extension-management actions.

Why direct install exists

The Chrome Web Store adds review time and platform dependency.
Direct installation keeps distribution simple and immediate.
You stay in control of the extension files on your device.
The workflow matches a private, utility-first product better than a marketplace listing.
02

Download and load the extension

Download the ZIP, extract it somewhere permanent, then point Chrome to that extracted folder.

Step 2a

Download the ZIP

Save the extension package to your machine first. Your default Downloads folder is fine.

Step 2b

Extract the ZIP

Extract the ZIP into a normal folder and keep that folder somewhere permanent, because Chrome will keep reading the extension from that location.

A good example path is Documents/music-bot.

Step 2c

Load it in Chrome

  • Open chrome://extensions.
  • Click Load unpacked.
  • Select the extracted folder, not the original ZIP file.
  • Once the extension appears, pin it for easier access later.
03

Get your Gemini API key

Music Bot needs a Gemini key to power AI-supported features and command handling.

  1. Open Google AI Studio.
  2. Sign in with your Google account.
  3. Create a new API key.
  4. Copy it and keep it ready for the extension popup.

Keep your API key private. Do not post it publicly or paste it into unknown websites or shared screenshots.

04

Configure the extension

Open the extension popup and fill in the required fields carefully the first time.

API keyRequired

Paste your Gemini API key here.

Your usernameRequired

Enter your exact Free4Talk username so the bot can recognise your commands correctly.

Command modeRequired

Choose Prefix, Natural, or Hybrid depending on how you want to control playback.

AutoPlay

Premium option that continues playback with AI-based suggestions after the queue ends.

Authorized users

Comma-separated usernames who can also control the bot in the same room.

05

Start using Music Bot

Once the extension is loaded and configured, you can control playback directly inside your room workflow.

Open a Free4Talk room and make sure YouTube Music is open in the same Chrome window. Then try commands like these:

!play shape of youplay some lofi music!queueskip thisvolume 60

Pin the extension from Chrome’s puzzle menu so the popup is always one click away.

Troubleshooting

These are the most common setup issues and the fastest ways to resolve them.

Make sure Developer mode is turned on in chrome://extensions. Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder, not the ZIP file itself. If Chrome shows an error on the extension card, remove it and load the folder again.

Make sure the provider is Gemini and that the API key was copied fully with no leading or trailing spaces. If needed, generate a new key in Google AI Studio and replace the old one in the extension popup.

Make sure YouTube Music is open in the same Chrome window. Also confirm that the Free4Talk username entered in the extension matches your real username exactly. After loading or reconfiguring the extension, refresh the Free4Talk tab once.

Open the extension popup and check the command detection mode. Switch between Prefix, Natural, or Hybrid depending on how you want to control it, then reload the active tab.

AutoPlay is a Premium feature. Make sure your license is active in the extension popup and confirm that the AutoPlay option is enabled.
